| The stunning views of Wastwater
and the Langdale Pikes from the highest point in England,
3,209ft/978m, make this a truly memorable experience.
The weekend will start on
Thursday with your journey to the Lake District after which we
check into our hotel in Keswick. You will have Friday at
leisure - at great time explore some of the many attractions of
the Lakes. Later on Friday you will be able to collect any
equipment you need from the UK'OP staff (boots, waterproofs,
flasks, rucksacks, etc).
The
walk on Saturday starts near (not in) the hamlet of Seatoller
and winds up a gentle well laid path running parallel to Grains
Gill towards the massive cliff-face of Great End. After a good
rest and a bite to eat we head upwards through Esk Hause into
the more “rugged” sections of the ascent. Unlike the other “Big
2” (Nevis and Snowdon) the upper reaches of The Pikes are a
rugged mixture of boulder fields and windblown slabs - don’t
worry though the guides have made this ascent many times. After
skirting the base of Broad Crag we drop steeply into Broad Stand
for the final 200m scramble to the summit. We descend via the
same path. The average time on this mountain (base to base) is
8hours. After the ascent you will be awarded with your
certificate as confirmation that you a reach the "roof of
England".
We can arrange train travel from
any main line station and, for participants from Northern
Ireland, we will arrange a flight to Liverpool then a train up
to the Lakes. Participants can be collect from Carlisle
train station if required. |
