Over 100,000 people in the UK suffer from
kidney problems. We hope to fund advances in treatment and care that
will benefit all those affected by kidney disease, whether the patient
suffers from a chronic complaint or acute end-stage kidney failure.
Each year, about 36,000 patients require dialysis, of which 5,000 need a
transplant, and one of our main objectives is to improve their treatment
so the conditions that arise following dialysis or transplant are
minimised.
Kidney disease is life-changing, painful and can be fatal. Untreated,
patients can die in three months if their kidneys fail. But early
diagnosis and intervention can prevent the serious progression of many
renal diseases. Kidney Research UK works in partnership
with local hospitals to provide extra dialysis units, staff and patient
support.
Treatment is expensive, with kidney diseases taking nearly £2 billion a
year off the total NHS budget. We urgently need to raise
funds to help support those with kidney disease. |
